Recently, i-FACTOR ® Peptide Enhanced Bone Graft, a novel anorganic bone matrix (ABM) containing a synthetic 15 amino acid cell-binding peptide (P-15 peptide) has been proposed as an alternative. Efficacy and cost-effectiveness are the pillars on which we need to make our choices. The debate comparing autologous bone, allografts, stem cells, and the highly cited and now debarred bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) for cervical spinal fusion 4, 5 is prevalent in the medical literature and omnipresent at national and international academic conferences. In the last two decades there has been increasing interest in biological grafts, the properties of natural and synthetic substitutes, and how alternatives to the traditional iliac crest autologous graft harvest can be safely used to accelerate healing and fusion. The ACDF procedure was first described by Cloward 2 and Smith & Robinson 3 six decades ago using autologous iliac crest bone graft (ICBG) and a lot has changed since. 1 Current technological advances in biomaterials are shaping the future of surgical techniques. Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) interventions have doubled over the previous decades and this trend is likely to continue as the population ages. Cervical spondylosis is the most common cause of myelopathy and upper extremity radiculopathy. ![]()

![]() These studies provide valuable information on the carcinogenic potential of these complex organic mixtures. The mutagenesis section is primarily concerned with the results of microbial mutagenesis studies with synfuel materials. Of particular importance in carcinogenesis has been the demonstration that the carcinogenic potencies of complex organic synfuel mixtures may be much lower (or, occasionally, higher) than the sum of the potencies of the more » individual components. This year we include a report on our 22nd Hanford Life Sciences Symposium, which dealt with this problem of extrapolating the results of animal studies to man. These data, along with metabolism and modeling studies, provide a basis for predicting human risks in the absence of relevant human exposure. The section on carcinogenesis presents results from laboratory animal dose-effect relationship studies from both nuclear and synfuels materials. Since some projects have multiple objectives, a section may contain data concerning other endpoints as well. The next three sections, which contain reports of health effects research in biological systems, are grouped according to the major endpoint being studied: carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, and systems damage. ![]() ![]() The first section is devoted to an evaluation of possible health effects among nuclear workers. This report summarizes progress on Office of Health and Environmental Research (OHER) biomedical and health effects research conducted at PNL in FY 1983 to develop the information required for a comprehensive understanding of the interaction of energy-related pollutants with living organisms. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() However, obtaining this clearance is not as easy as it may seem. In order to properly and legally sample another musician’s work into your own original work, the sampling artist must obtain a “ sample clearance” from the appropriate owner(s) of the original recording. Sampling is an art form that has been widely suppressed due to the radical rules which fall under music licensing. So, if integrating others' music into your own is a standard norm within the music industry, what makes the process of obtaining the proper clearance to use the sample so difficult? Well, it’s largely due to the complex nature of music copyright laws. Most successful artists and producers will tell you that they’ve used samples consistently throughout their music career. It’s no secret that the ability to use a sample is the shortcut to a hit record. Inspiration is often found through artists who came before us and existing music is constantly altered in a way that makes it sound brand new to the listener.ĭid you know that every week the Billboard Top 100 chart contains at least 20 songs with samples? In fact, it’s typical for songs containing samples to out-chart the original song itself. However, if you choose to use a sample or integrate other’s sounds into your own recording - it can be even more of a hassle to get those sounds cleared for legitimate use.Ĭreating music is very much a collaborative and joint process. This (among other reasons) is exactly why sampling has become so prevalent in music production. If you are a producer, you know how time consuming it can be to craft your own music and sounds from scratch. ![]() ![]() ![]() Webster, a City with a mission, took the leadership role in. With Orwyle in place, proper medical treatment followed, undoubtedly a huge part of why Viserys has lived so long despite his failing health. By the time of “Lord of the Tides,” we now have Orwyle in an actual position of power, selected as Grand Maester in the wake of veritable leech lord Maester “Not Roose Bolton” Mellos’s ( David Horovitch) death. The Grandest Maesterīy the way, if you’re wondering how it’s possible for King Viserys to even be alive at this point (at least until the end of the episode), look no further than Grand Maester Orwyle, played by Kurt Egyiawan.Įarlier in the season, while the king received his many leech treatments, it was Orwyle who advocated for using actual medication to help Viserys through his myriad conditions. Poor Viserys would be ashamed if he saw any of this with his own one eye. The show rearranged some of these events, but more or less brought them from the page to the screen. Here in the show, it appears to be a last supper of sorts, as Viserys acknowledges the dragon in the room: he’s not long for this world, he knows it, and all he wants is for all of his loved ones to get along.įollowing Viserys’s departure from the feast, Aemond One-Eye ( Ewan Mitchell) raises his glass to his “sweet nephews,” and proposes a toast to “these three strong boys.” The book has this toast from Aemond occurring before Jace ( Harry Collett) asks Helaena ( Phia Saban) for a dance, prompting a scuffle with her husband Aegon ( Tom Glynn-Carney). In the book, the feast is held in honor of Viserys’s resurgent health following Rhaenyra’s return from Dragonstone. That awkward dinner? It’s ripped straight from the pages of Fire and Blood. Viserys is obviously in rough shape throughout “Lord of the Tides,” but rather than expanding in size as in the book, the king is shrinking before our very eyes-and even losing one of his own, not unlike his son Aemond once upon a time. A deadly fever takes hold, only broken when Rhaenyra joins at his side from Dragonstone, bringing one of her own maesters to remove two of his fingers and stop the spread of infection. Suffering from gout, Viserys is described by Martin as “extremely fat and red of face, and scarce had the strength to mount the steps to the Iron Throne.” After ruling against the cousins, Viserys falls from the throne and cuts his left hand open, down to the bone. There are the smaller flourishes, such as the show referencing Evenfall Hall, a nod to Gwendoline Christie’s Brienne of Tarth there’s the arrival of the knights Erryk and Arryk Cargyll ( Elliott and Luke Tittensor, respectively), twins who are not played by the same actor, unlike Jefferson Hall’s Lannister siblings Jason and Tyland and even the literal eggs hatched by Syrax, one of which will likely wind up producing a dragon for one of the show’s slow-building characters. Martin’s Fire and Blood as tensions continue to escalate. ![]() We love to see it!Īnd make no mistake, “The Lord of the Tides” is an episode rich with book lore, drawing deeply from George R.R. This review provides new concepts to guide future directions for developing Te NMs‐based electrocatalysts, thereby promoting their future wide applications in electrochemical energy systems. ![]() Finally, the existing key issues and main challenges of Te NMs for electrocatalysis are highlighted, and the development trend of Te NMs as electrocatalysts is expounded. Then, typical applications of Te NMs in electrocatalysis are also discussed in detail. First, the engineering strategies and principles of Te NMs to enhance their electrocatalytic activity and stability from the nanostructures to the catalytic atoms are discussed in detail, especially on the chemical/physical/multiplex templating strategies, heteroatom doping, vacancy/defect engineering, phase engineering, and the corresponding mechanisms and structure‐performance correlations. In the absence of comprehensive and guiding reviews, this review comprehensively summarizes the main advances in designing emerging Te NMs for electrocatalysis. Recently, tellurium‐based nanomaterials (Te NMs) with unique chemical, electronic, and topological properties, including Te‐derived nanostructures and transition metal tellurides (TMTs), have emerged as one of the most promising electrocatalytic materials. This work offers new pathways to boost alkaline HOR by rationally designing multicomponent alloys.Ībstract With the dramatic developments of renewable and environmental‐friendly electrochemical energy conversion systems, there is an urgent need to fabricate durable and efficient electrocatalysts to address the limitation of high overpotentials exceeding thermodynamic requirements to facilitate practical applications. ![]() Moreover, the catalyst also demonstrates excellent stability with merely 5% activity attenuation after 2000 potential cycles. Hence, the obtained trimetallic alloy catalyst exhibits an impressive kinetic current density of 30.6 mA cm−2geo at 50 mV and an exchange current density of 0.426 mA cm−2metal, which shows 3.0- and 2.5-fold enhancement compared with the commercial Pt/C in alkaline electrolyte, respectively. We optimize the adsorption strength of platinum and ruthenium towards hydrogen and hydroxyl species by regulating the electron donation from tellurium to platinum and ruthenium. Herein, we report a facile route for the synthesis of ternary PtRuTe alloy nanofibers with Pt atomic ratio of only 11% via a simple galvanic replacement reaction. Consequently, the development of platinum-based catalysts combined with high efficiency and durability is urgently required. Sluggish kinetics of anodic hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) in alkaline media, which arises from the two orders of magnitude lower HOR activity in alkali than that in acid media for platinum group metals, hinders the commercial implementation of anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs). As a result, the quaternary PtPdRuTe NTs exhibit enhanced activity and stability toward efficient MOR. ![]() X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) reveals a larger extent of electron transfer from neighboring atoms to Pt on PtPdRuTe, con-sequently leading to a weaker bonding of the intermediate on Pt. The optimized incorpo-ration of Pd atoms into ternary PtRuTe NTs facilitated to form uni-form protecting PtPd surface and modify Pt electronic structure to improve the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) performance. The NT wall thickness and formed NPs on the surface are closely related with the composition, especially Pd content. It is easy to obtain PtPdRuTe NTs with different composition and controlled shape using ultrathin Te nan-owires (NWs) as sacrificial templates for its high activity. In this work, a simple galvanic replacement reaction was utilized to synthesize low Pt-based qua-ternary nanotubes (NTs). Improving heteroatomic interactions via alloying or forming hetero-geneous catalysts is of importance to the enhancement in terms of electrocatalytic activity and stability. ![]() ![]() ![]() Works seamlessly with Google Drive, so all you need is a Google account.ĬlipboardMaster is a free clipboard manager software for Windows.Works for Windows (32/64bit) and macOS (10.8 and later). ![]()
